Summer Fun

Summer is here in full force, the heat is up and the kids are out of school. The economy is still in tough shape for many, so what do we do? We find ways to have FUN. We all could use some fun with the family, and a great way to do this is to find outdoor activities that can be done as a group and that aren't going to drain the wallet. Maybe it has been a long time since you have explored these types of activities, maybe they are fun family activities already. Whatever the case may be, every week we want to provide information and ideas for you. We can help. We LOVE to help! We invite you to post some of your own ideas and strategies to help other readers as well, chances are if something is fun for your family it will be fun for other families too~!
This weeks' Family Outdoor Adventure, FISHING!
One of the fondest childhood memories for many is the time they caught their first fish. What an adventure. The memory lasts a lifetime, it is one of those moments in life that you one never forgets. The shrieking, the giggling, the shear JOY of seeing the fish on the end of the line. For many kids, it remains one of the first accomplishments they remember. Who doesn't have a story about their first fish?
There are many resources out there to help you get started. A State Park or local pond is a great place to start, but make sure you pick up a license, usually only a few bucks. Basic equipment won't brake the bank, either. We think this is a good product for you to start with, and for our money getting the complete package with hooks, line rod and reel has many advantages. The children will want to fish RIGHT AWAY, and will look to you to make that happen. Our approach is to start with something dependable and good quality that won't brake the bank or present a nightmare of complications.
Mom and Dad, and maybe some of young ones that have had a fishing adventure before may want to move to a new rod, or a new reel. Keeping price and performance in mind, this rod and this reel are great for the more experienced outdoor adventurer.
Once you have a rod and reel, all you need is some bait and a few hooks and you are set to go! Worms work, shmushed up balls of bread do also. The whole family can be involved in the bait production/digging worm adventure. Bring the sun screen, hats for the kids, a picnic and off you go!
Tell us all about it when you get back....! We would love to hear what great outdoor adventures you and the family had, and what NEW adventures you would like us to cover in future articles!
Thanks, and have fun on YOUR next family outdoor adventure!
